Anti-Racism. Intersectionality. Diverse Socio-Cultural Norms.

A volunteer-led non-profit, ARCC e.V., has united its efforts since 2021 to challenge and transform racist and pervasive white supremacist cultural and social norms. Actively working to contribute to a society that acknowledges and confronts racism and racial injustice, at both the individual and structural levels.

About Us

There is no such thing as
neutrality when it comes
to racism.

The opposite of "racist" is not "not racist"; it is "antiracist"

Every person in the world engages with race, racism, and its legacies, and it is crucial to recognise that neutrality in the face of racism is not possible. We are commonly led to believe that it is only non-white people—those who experience racism—who have a race. The truth is, everyone is racialised in some sense. This means we are all responsible for addressing racism. At ARCC e.V., we believe that addressing racism is a responsibility everyone should take on.

True commitment to racial justice involves active engagement and a willingness to confront and dismantle racist systems. The opposite of being "racist" is not merely being "not racist"; it is being "antiracist." This means actively identifying, challenging, and opposing racism at every level, from individual attitudes to institutional practices. As an organisation, we are dedicated to fostering antiracist values and actions, working diligently to transform cultural and social norms that uphold white supremacy. Through education, advocacy, and community mobilisation, we aim to create a society that not only acknowledges but actively addresses and eliminates racism and racial injustice.

What is ARCC e.V.?

The Anti-Racism & Culture Club (ARCC) e.V., is a not-for-profit organisation founded and operating primarily in Munich, Germany.

We are also an official University Group (Hochschulgruppe) recognised by the Ludwig-Maximilian-University of Munich (LMU). Visit the LMU's Webpage for more information.

Our Purpose and Principles

At ARCC e.V., we are dedicated to fostering a world where racial justice and cultural diversity are deeply embedded in everyday life. Through education, activism, and community engagement, we strive to create meaningful change and build a more inclusive society.

The name "Anti-Racism & Culture Club" reflects our commitment to integrating anti-racism education and activism into all aspects of life. We advocate for viewing and shaping everyday actions through an antiracist lens. Our work involves critically analysing and challenging how racism operates, using anti-racism theory as a framework for tangible action.
We aim to shift the dominant white-supremacist socio-cultural landscape, ensuring that historically marginalised groups are seen and heard. By leveraging the power of art and cultural activities, we expose the richness of diversity and inspire meaningful cross-cultural and cross-racial relationships.
ARCC e.V. is not just a name; it is a commitment to a continuous journey towards a just and inclusive world. We are dedicated to fostering an interconnected community, celebrating diverse cultures, and advocating for systemic change.

What we do

We’ve explained what ARCC e.V. is, but you’re probably wondering what we actually do and what we want to achieve - and how. Here’s a small summary.

1
Our foremost priority is awareness. By establishing ourselves with a clear and focused goal—addressing racism—we underscore the urgency of creating a dedicated forum for tackling racism explicitly through anti-racism. This approach ensures that our efforts are not diluted under the broader umbrellas of "diversity," "discrimination," or "intercultural affairs.".
2
The second crucial element for us is conversation. Our goal is to create a space where racism can be discussed openly and respectfully, however uncomfortably, moving beyond surface-level discourse to explore deeper issues. To achieve this, we organise panel discussions with invited guests, engaging both the panellists and the audience in meaningful dialogue. These discussions aim to uncover new perspectives and methods for addressing and understanding racism, filling the gaps where broader conversations often fall short.
3
With our conversations, we aim to convey that every person is an actor in a multifaceted and interconnected world, and therefore, an agent of change. By encouraging people to question their beliefs, upbringing, preferences, worldview, and the news they encounter, we initiate a chain effect within society, spreading our work and enabling more individuals to confront racism. Anti-racism cannot be the work of a few; it must be an effort embraced by everyone. We aspire to be a ripple in the wave towards a kinder, more equitable, just, and fair society.
4
Once we have established the necessity for organisations like ours and for civil engagement, we collaborate with individuals and institutions to discuss ways to reform policies and frameworks towards racial equity. Our organisation was founded by students who observed that educational institutions in Germany often neglect the issue of racism within the education context, curriculum, and campus life. Our first step was creating a tool for change. We are mobilising more students to become aware of our cause, so that we can combine efforts and make it clear that educational institutions should be inclusive for everyone.
5
Realising that the sphere within which we do our work is also not representative of all society, we want to ensure that anti-racism takes place in various areas of the real world. This includes workplaces, art, commerce, media, politics, healthcare, sports, technology, and beyond. By addressing racism across these diverse spheres, we aim to create a more inclusive and equitable society in all aspects of life. That is what we are yet to do.

We are dedicated to providing resources and support for individuals and communities striving for racial justice and equity. Our initiatives aim to educate, mobilize, and empower those committed to creating a just society.

Projects

Finding ways
to make a new and
meaningful impact.

Beyond creating dialogue forums

While much of our work is targeted towards engaging in dialogue with people in everyday contexts through our themed events, we're also finding ways to make a more continuous and lasting impact. This involves working on projects that have the potential to effect lasting change beyond our event halls. The first step towards this goal is meeting with our audiences at our events. From these meetings, ideas for projects emerge, addressing areas in society, culture, and socio-political contexts where racism is present and pervasive but often neglected.

Here’s how it works —

1
We meet twice a year, at six-month intervals, and spend considerable time discussing current news, legislation, cultural trends, policies, and political issues. These discussions allow us to reflect on where racism and its interconnected effects have been observed, as well as the ripple effects that might not be immediately visible.
We then create an agenda that, resources permitting, we will tackle in the upcoming six months through events, petitions, projects, and other initiatives.
2
We set up a calendar for events where dialogue is a key focus. We then begin our research and outreach to our partners, guest speakers, and experts. After each event, we come together to analyse project feasibility and outline the course for follow-up events if necessary, to generate more attention. These events allow us to test the waters for public reception, as experience has shown that interest often indicates that the issue is important and would be supported if it turns into a project.
3
Once we're confident that a theme is feasible, we sit together and discuss ways in which the issue can be tackled. Here, we figure out which new project partners to approach or put out a call and receive expressions of interest. After this, we go through formal procedures to set up project frameworks, including proposals, budgeting, development, reviewing, finalisation, and launching.

The executive committee and the extended executive committee are only elected from active members. Although there are no legal terms that define the difference between active and passive members, we have established our own guidelines.

Uniquely, ARCC does not levy a membership fee, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity.

As an official University Group recognized by Ludwig-Maximilian-University of Munich (LMU), we aim to address racism through education, activism, and community engagement around campus and everywhere else.
What inspired the founding of ARCC e.V.?
ARCC e.V. was founded by students who recognized the need for a dedicated forum to address racism explicitly through anti-racism efforts. Observing the lack of attention to racism within educational institutions and other areas of society, we decided to create an organisation that focuses on challenging and transforming racist norms and advocating for racial justice.
How does ARCC e.V. measure the impact of its work?
We measure our impact through various methods, including participant feedback, event attendance, and the outcomes of our projects and initiatives. We also track changes in community awareness and engagement with anti-racism efforts. Regular evaluations help us refine our strategies and improve our programs.
How does ARCC e.V. address intersectionality in its work?
Intersectionality is a core principle in our approach to anti-racism. We recognize that individuals experience racism in combination with other forms of oppression, such as sexism, homophobia, and ableism. Our initiatives and projects strive to address these intersecting issues, ensuring that our work is inclusive and equitable for all.
What are the differences between active and passive memberships at ARCC e.V.?
Active members have full membership rights, including voting rights and the ability to take on roles within the organisation. They can also join various departments, taking on specific roles, and actively participate in shaping the organisation. Passive members, on the other hand, support our mission without the commitment to active volunteering or participation in organisational activities. This type of membership is ideal for those who may have time or health constraints but still wish to contribute to our cause.
How do I apply for membership at ARCC e.V.?
To apply for membership, visit our dedicated page for membership applications on our Home page.
Does ARCC e.V. charge a membership fee?
No, ARCC e.V. does not levy a membership fee. We believe in inclusivity and strive to make our organisation accessible to everyone.
What types of projects does ARCC e.V. work on?
ARCC e.V. engages in a variety of projects aimed at addressing and dismantling racism in different areas of society. Our projects often emerge from discussions at our events and include themes such as racism in education, media, art, and public policy. We collaborate with partners, experts, and the community to develop and implement these projects, which aim to create lasting change.
